Over the course of the scheme, we will take into account where you live and endeavour to post you to establishments in the same area. However, you should be looking to gain as much experience as possible of different prisons within the Service as, ultimately, we are looking for future leaders who are prepared to play their part wherever that may be.

Following successful completion of your stage 1 exams and JSAC, you will be promoted to Senior Officer level and posted to your next establishment.

At this level your responsibilities will increase to include staff management and the daily management of an area within a prison. Training will continue to be delivered on-the-job and supplemented by regular courses and workshops at the Prison Service College.

Your mentor and training team will seek to identify individual development needs, tailor experiences accordingly and provide regular feedback on your progress.

This stage of the scheme normally lasts between 10-12 months.
