Salary Details
In return for your commitment you can look forward to a starting salary of £16,896 (under review) plus local pay allowances of up to £4,000 where applicable. Your salary will rise to just over £27,000 within 12-18 months, depending on your rate of progression. The possibility of a non-consolidated payment of £2,500 to members during the first year is under consideration. The Civil Service offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pensions giving you the flexibility to choose the pension that suits you best.

Selection Process
There are several stages to the selection process. The first is a marking of the Core Management Skills Assessment Form, which you will complete as part of your initial application. This form will be used for initial sifting purposes and you are therefore advised to take some time to consider your responses carefully. Candidates who pass this stage will be called to a one-day assessment consisting of written exercises which will assess analytical skills, decision making and problem solving. Those who are successful at this stage will then be invited to the final stage: a two-day assessment centre focusing on inter-personal skills. The one-day assessment will take place at different venues throughout the country in February 2005 with the final stage two-day assessment centre being held over a weekend in April 2005.

Guaranteed interview for disabled people
The Prison Service operates a guaranteed interview for disabled people (as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) who meet the minimum criteria for appointment. If you wish to apply for consideration under this scheme, please complete the relevant section within the application form. In addition if you require any special arrangements at our assessment centres please let us know so that the appropriate arrangements can be made.
